Broadcaster Boasts Intensely Pure Rock'n'roll
by Rodney M. Schussler
Ever so rarely comes a rock'n'roll record so intensely pure that it's more contagious than the flu. Broadcaster is just that. It ain't alterna-nothing, just rock'n'roll. That's the beauty of the band. They don't waste any time trying things that won't work. They just rock, from the arena-style pleasures of "American City World" to the throw-back ballad on "Aerosmith," the band smokes.
Guitarist/singer Wes Kidd is more a Ted Nugent disciple than a young punk. He crafts a genuinely tragic blaze of fire, most notably on the triple-good "Revved Up". The twang in his voice is solid gold beauty, from the raspy, dark "So Cheery" to the cranky "Anna". The band is truly an electric personality, and Broadcaster should be a lesson to all young bands everywhere: Stick with your heart, because at least you can feel good about it.
