Triple Fast Action
Broadcaster
by Jason Ferguson

(Alternative Press gave Broadcaster a four out of five...)

Following a couple of 7-inches with a pretty intense bidding war (Jesus, what band isn't the object of a "pretty intense bidding war" these days?) and, finally, this full-length, Triple Fast Action turned in thirteen tracks that certainly make their AEtR man smile. The band's rawk-leaning take on pathos-and-distortion drenched pop is well-served by both the production talents of Don Fleming and Brad Wood (remember what I said about a pretty intense bidding war?) as well as by the surprisingly accomplished songwriting of singer/guitarist Wes Kidd. In other words, it's gonna sound great on the radio. Which, of course, is too bad, because TFA are actually a pretty great band and it would be a shame to see them dismissed as commercial supernovas just because they managed to turn in a fabulous album the first time out. For the most part, Broadcaster sticks with meat-and-potatoes rock, slowing down only for some minute-and-a-half song with a Japanese title and for the somewhat goofy "Paris." The remaining dozen songs are custom-built for fast driving by angry young men. Ultimately infectious (especially on the metallically powerful and rather sublime "Sally Tree"), TFA have somehow captured suburban malaise and turned it into an excuse for a downtown art party.
